India: Ministry of Finance Publishes Inter-Ministerial Committee Report and Draft Bill on Banning Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency

On July 23, 2019, the Ministry of Finance published an inter-ministerial committee report, along with the draft Banning Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill 2019. A high-level inter-ministerial committee was constituted in November 2017 to study the issues related to cryptocurrencies, including examining the policy and legal framework of virtual currencies/cryptocurrencies/digital currencies across various jurisdictions and propose actions and measures to handle any issues that may arise.
