On October 13, 2020, the National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) unveiled for the first time the draft Personal Information Protection Law (中华人民共和国个人信息保护法) – PIPL (an unofficial English translation is available here). The draft was submitted to public consultation between October 21 and November 19, and once it is passed by the national legislature, the act will establish the basic principles underlying the domestic regulatory framework on collection and utilisation of personal data.
