On July 5, 2016, the UK government introduced the Digital Economy Bill 2016-17 before parliament. This bill would provide notifications to payment services providers and ancillary services providers to consider the withdrawal of services to organisations which make possible payments to illegal pornographers. It would also widen the scope of the supervisory powers of the Bank of England on payments systems to cover payments which are initiated by non-bank payment institutions.
