The Watal panel, a government-backed committee, submitted a report to the government of India on December 9, 2016 and recommended a medium-term strategy for accelerating growth of digital payments in India. The panel was constituted in August 2016 to review the payment systems in India and to recommend appropriate measures for encouraging digital payments.
